The release marks a renewed partnership between Piece of Magic Entertainment and TOHO Global, following POM’s successful 2023 theatrical rollout of GODZILLA MINUS ONE across 38 territories in Europe. The film went on to become a landmark title for the franchise, earning widespread international acclaim, grossing over $116M at the global box office and making history as the first Godzilla film to win an Academy Award, taking home Best Visual Effects at the 96th Academy Awards. This landmark film also celebrated the 70th anniversary of the franchise in 2024 and marked the 30th live-action Japanese Godzilla film.

Since first emerging in 1954, Godzilla has continued to captivate and surprise audiences across the globe. GODZILLA MINUS ZERO will make history as the first Japanese film ever to be Filmed for IMAX. From the filmmaking team behind the 96th Best Visual Effects Academy Award-winning GODZILLA MINUS ONE, the film is written and directed by Takashi Yamazaki, who also returns to oversee the film’s visual effects

Set in 1949, two years after the tumultuous events of GODZILLA MINUS ONE, GODZILLA MINUS ZERO continues the story of the Shikishima family as they face an all-new calamity. Confirmed during CinemaCon, Ryunosuke Kamiki returns as Koichi Shikishima, the hero who faced Godzilla’s terror in GODZILLA MINUS ONE, alongside Minami Hamabe as Noriko Oishi, who miraculously survived Godzilla’s first attack on Tokyo. As they confront an unprecedented new threat, the story also sees its heroes face their own inner darkness and lingering regrets. Two years have passed since the desperate struggle depicted in Godzilla Minus One. Just as humanity clings to a hard-won peace, a terrifying new threat emerges to shatter it in an instant. The newly released poster features the striking tagline, “Our Crime and Punishment. Returning to zero is not an option”, alongside a haunting image of Godzilla roaring into the skies amid gathering storm clouds, foreshadowing unimaginable horror and a deeper sense of despair.

Also unveiled today is a tense thirty-second teaser trailer, offering glimpses of familiar faces from Godzilla Minus One, including Noda, played by Hidetaka Yoshioka, and Shikishima, played by Ryunosuke Kamiki. As the chilling line “this crosses the line of what humanity is permitted to do” gives way to a sudden bombardment, the tension escalates rapidly, before the trailer concludes with a shocking sequence of Godzilla emerging from the ocean depths and closing in behind a flying boat, threatening to plunge Japan back into the abyss of hopelessness once again.

Renowned globally as a master dancer and celebrated for his unforgettable, powerhouse performance in the 2025 blockbuster film Kokuho, legendary actor Min Tanaka has officially joined the cast. Following his recent win for Outstanding Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role at the 49th Japan Academy Film Prize for Kokuho, Tanaka will take on the pivotal role of Kanji Murakami, a biologist carrying deep psychological scars from the war.

In tandem with this announcement, the star-studded returning cast from the previous film has been fully unveiled. Hidetaka Yoshioka reprises his role as Kenji Noda, who fought alongside protagonist Koichi Shikishima, played by Ryunosuke Kamiki, in Godzilla Minus One and now battles the new threat as the director of the Large-Scale Disaster Management Bureau. Yuki Yamada returns as Shiro Mizushima, the young crew member of the Shinsei Maru who fought on the front lines, alongside Kuranosuke Sasaki as Seiji Akitsu, the captain of the same vessel. Furthermore, Sakura Ando reprises her role as Sumiko Ota, Shikishima’s neighbor who now runs the Kiyosumi-en orphanage, and Mio Tanaka returns as Tatsuo Hotta, the former captain of the destroyer Yukikaze. Having survived the previous deadly struggle alongside Shikishima, these beloved characters stand ready to face the unprecedented despair of Godzilla once again.

Fan anticipation is already building worldwide. The film’s first look teaser, released earlier this year, has generated more than 4.7M views on YouTube, reflecting the strong excitement and enthusiasm surrounding Godzilla’s return to the big screen.

“Following the incredible response to Godzilla Minus One, we are thrilled to once again partner with Toho Studios to bring the next chapter of this legendary franchise to cinemas,” said Caspar Nadaud, CEO & Founder of Piece of Magic Entertainment. “Godzilla has an extraordinary legacy, and with Godzilla Minus Zero, audiences can look forward to a new spectacular big-screen experience from an exceptional filmmaking team - one that will bring the scale, intensity and power of Godzilla back to cinemas as a true big-screen cinematic experience.
