Piece of Magic Entertainment Acquires All Rights for Germany to Oscar-Nominated Animated Feature, Little Amélie or The Character of Rain

Piece of Magic Entertainment (POM) has acquired all rights for Germany to the critically acclaimed, animated feature Little Amélie or the Character of Rain, fresh from its nomination for Best Animated Feature at the 98th Academy Awards.
The deal was brokered with international sales company Goodfellas Animation, continuing Piece of Magic’s focus on bringing elevated animation and awards-calibre storytelling to international audiences. POM is targeting a nationwide German theatrical release this spring, with date to be announced.
Directed by Maïlys Vallade and Liane-Cho Han, Little Amélie or the Character of Rain is adapted from ‘The Character of Rain’, the autobiographical novel by acclaimed Belgian author Amélie Nothomb. This poetic, animated feature follows the earliest years of a young girl growing up in Japan, discovering the world through imagination, sensitivity and emotional resilience. Blending painterly, hand-crafted animation with delicate emotional storytelling, the film explores childhood identity, memory and inner life through a distinctly lyrical visual language.
Little Amélie or the Character of Rain premiered as a Special Screening at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival and has since built significant international momentum; alongside its Academy Award nomination, the film has received widespread critical recognition, including the Audience Award at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, a Golden Globe, BAFTA and César Award best animation feature film nomination, as well as an impressive 98% score on Rotten Tomatoes.
